Celebrating 20 Years of Classical Herbal Education

We are thrilled to launch our newly enhanced Jing Fang Hybrid Program for 2026, marking a particularly special year in this educational journey. 2026 commemorates 20 years of Salustino’s dedicated teaching of Jing Fang, a lineage-based approach to Chinese herbal medicine rooted in the Han dynasty and adapted for contemporary clinical use.  Whether you are beginning your Jing Fang journey or seeking to deepen your clinical application, this course offers a rare opportunity to study within a lineage-informed, modern framework of Chinese herbal medicine.

❦❧ Rooted in the Han dynasty

This year’s course encapsulates twenty years of teaching and clinical application, drawing on extensive experience in integrating Jing Fang into Western medicine-informed clinical settings. The curriculum reflects a sustained commitment to both classical accuracy and practical relevance, offering students access to a clinically informed education designed to meet the needs of today’s diverse and complex patient presentations.

❦❧ Two Decades of Clinical Wisdom, Refined for Modern Learners

Our hybrid model acknowledges that true learning is not merely about content delivery, but about creating the conditions for transformation. By giving students time to percolate the material before engaging in live sessions, we create an environment where insight, clinical relevance, and theoretical depth can emerge organically. Peer discussion and mentorship further enhance this process, contributing to a dynamic and supportive educational community.

❦❧ Pedagogy Rooted in Reflection and Integration

Why is studying Jing Fang the easiest way to learn and master Chinese Herbal Medicine?

Jing Fang has a very select few herbal formulas, out of 178 formulas, 50 are most commonly used in clinics.

Around 90% of Jing Fang formulas have less than 7 ingredients.

It has unique and logical herbal combinations and modifications.

Jing Fang uses a very select few herbs, out of 151 herbs, 80 are most commonly used.

All formulas come from the same book, belonging to the same system.

The theoretical and clinical concepts of Jing Fang are the oldest and most authoritative formulation of Chinese medicine, and have been proven highly effective in the clinical practice of internal medicine for nearly two millennia.

Only by understanding this highly developed, clinical and scientific system, that is the foundation and core of Chinese herbal medicine, will you be able to understand later formulas and thus be able to use them knowingly in your clinical practice.

  • For Herbalists, the course is a wonderful opportunity to engage with the Classical approach. The Jing Fang approach is manageable and systematic - it allows you to reduce the number of herbs and formulas needed to be effective in practice. Classical formulas typically contain a small number of herbs.

For Acupuncturists, the course is a wonderful opportunity to study Chinese Herbal Medicine from scratch. The theory and clinical skills can be immediately applied into one’s practice. The herbal formulas are tailored specifically to the individual’s condition and you will learn how to adapt your formulas to the patient’s progress.

If Jing Fang is your starting point to study Chinese herbal medicine, your study will be less overwhelming and more advantageous, this is because the core group of herbs and formulas are precisely defined and limited in content.

  • Yes, students who can’t attend the practical weekends, can still reap the benefits and transform their ability to prescribe Chinese Materia Medica by participating in the online module of our Jing Fang training program. The online module is designed as a complete program in itself, and it is where the core of the program is taught.
